Time’s almost up (10 things to do before I’m 30 - an update)

December 27, 2006

About 6 months ago I posted a blog about 10 things to do before I’m 30. It wasn’t a very serious post but they were mostly attainable wishes (apart from number 10, of course!).

Well, I’m down to my last 3 hours of being a 20-something, and I’m starting to see things a bit more seriously (and perhaps desperately!). I’ve realised that I have actually accomplished some of the items from that list of 10, namely 1, 6, 7, I’ve got a bit more of 5 done, and I’ve amost acheived 8. But really that doesn’t matter, it could have been a list of 10 other random things that I wanted to achieve within the timeframe (or not as the case may be), the point was/is that the destination is an important and significant milestone which represents the end of an era, and perhaps a last grasp on youth.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not desperately depressed or anything, I’m just feeling a little sentimental and nostalgic (as perhaps most people are when faced with being 30 Earth years old).
I can’t say that I have any regrets. I’ve certainly made my fair share of mistakes (and I still am), but I believe that making mistakes is something that we all need to do as much as learning from them. If I was pushed I’d have to say that my only regret is not having my friend still with me on this side of life to share the season’s holiday with.

With that in mind I’m on my way to getting sufficiently tipsy :)

Certain death

December 24, 2006

It is. Death is certain. And when we all die (not all at once, obviously) we might hope that people talk about us (in a nice way). But what would they say? Have you ever thought about it? I have.

He was an alright bloke.
He was a moody bastard.
Weird boy - picked his nose a lot too.
He was always a bit podgy.
Nice looking boy. Very quiet though.
He never shut up. Always on about something.
Very thoughtful boy. I’ll miss him.
Etc, etc.

Maybe it’s because I’ll be thirty (30) years old in 3 days that I have posted this morbid blog. Maybe it’s because I realise it’s a good excuse to write down what I often think about anyway.
Whatever, my blogs are limited. There’s only so much you can do before your death. And at thirty the clock’s ticking quite a bit louder, it seems.

Pah.

Garland recordings fail to sell

Judy Garland in The Wizard Of Oz

Garland made her name in 1939’s Wizard Of Oz

Four recordings made by a young Judy Garland have failed to sell at a Los Angeles auction.

I am slightly amazed that these recordings did not sell.  Apparently the bidding stopped at $22,500 (£11,500), and the ‘reserve’ was $40,000 (£20,354).

If you ask me I think this perhaps shows that bidders were merely aprehensive over the value.

But then, as a recent Scissor Sister’s song - The Other Side - shows, even a small sound-byte from Judy can add great value to a sound.
